Petroleum Research Atlantic Canada

Petroleum Research Atlantic Canada (PRAC) is a federally incorporated, not for profit, public-private partnership that began operations in 1999. PRAC is committed to increasing the capacity and scale of petroleum-related research in Atlantic Canada. PRAC has 39 members drawn from academia, federal and provincial governments and industry.

Since PRAC’s first research grants were authorized in April 2001, 29 open call projects have been funded with a total commitment of $2.1 million in PRAC direct contributions. This commitment has been significantly leveraged and the total research and development activity initiated by PRAC contributions to date amounts to more than $11 million. In 2003, PRAC was a key outside funding agency for the $1.2 million joint industry project involving acoustic monitoring and marine mammal surveys in the Gully and outer Scotian Shelf.

PRAC has recently negotiated a series of national and international memoranda of understanding to foster the sharing of information and advancing technology transfer. Current MOU’s are signed with Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC), National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), University of New Brunswick, Institut Francais du Petrole, and EniTechnologie in Milan, Italy.
