Cross-Border Forums on Energy Issues Podcast Series

On March 6, 2008 the Centre for Energy in partnership with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars hosted the ninth cross-border forum on energy issues. Seventy-five participants, including academics, policy makers and industry representatives talked about whether both Canada and the United States should engage in the technology and if so, how. The Centre for Energy sat down with the seven panelists who led the discussion at the forum. The following interviews will give listeners a technical, environmental and social perspective on carbon capture and storage.

Interview: Dr. Jane Long and Mark Demchuck

Dr. Jane Long is the associate director at large at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory working on energy and the environment. She brings to the carbon capture and storage discussion background in science, geotechnical and mineral engineering.

Mark Demchuck is team leader of EnCana Corporaton’s Weyburn Business Unit – a technology driven business that is both Canada’s largest enhanced oil recovery project as well as the world’s largest CO2 geological storage project.

Interview: Dr. David Lewin and Adam Sieminski

Dr. David Lewin is the senior vice president of Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle development at Epcor. He also is the chairman of the Canadian Clean Power Coalition – an organization focused on achieving low emission coal-fired generation.

Adam Sieminski is chief energy economist for Deutsche Bank working with the bank’s global commodities research and trading units.

Interview: Chuck Szmurlo and Dr. Eddy Isaacs

Chuck Szmurlo is the vice president, energy technology and power generation for Enbridge Inc. He is responsible for evaluating and developing investment opportunities in new growth platforms – including carbon dioxide sequestration and other merging energy technology.

Dr. Eddy Isaacs is the executive director of the Alberta Energy Research Institute for Alberta’s strategic directions and investment in energy and innovation areas with includes carbon management.

Interview: Doug Bonner

Doug Bonner is the senior vice-president of corporate development with ARC Resources. He is responsible for the strategic development of ARC’s enhanced oil recovery assets and has extensive technical knowledge of oil and natural gas fields throughout western Canada, the east coast and northern Canada.
